Backstage
Behind the scenes of the DODS are a group of talented people who work 52 weeks a year to help create the magic of theatre. They design, build and paint scenery, gather props, prepare lighting plots, record sound effects and design and sew numerous costumes for our shows.
The backstage crew consists of people of all ages from 13 to 70 year olds, working together with a great sense of humour.
Some of the shows that have presented special challenges recently include:
- Me and My Girl where we had to design and build a car that could be removed from the stage disguised as luggage;
- On the Town which had 19 sets;
- Aladdin which had flying carpets, magically appearing Genies and floating tables and chairs.
We welcome all ages and abilities backstage. If you can sew, paint, work with wood, are a good organiser, can design and operate lighting or sound desks or are reasonably confident telling one end of a hammer from the other we say:
"Come Join Us!"
We can usually be found in the "Sheds" behind Kingshill House in Dursley most Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7.30 to 9.30 PM.
